Once I was really angry. When I first saw it, the Synagogue was a library. Once, where there are shelves with chips and dog food, stood shelves with books. On the wall a prayer for the Tsar. The stepd lead to the women's gallery. There used to be a piano. The lady supervising the library allowed my friend to play on it. And she played the Turkish March by Mozart. :-)

All I have left of her is a lamp. As a child I had two aunts. They weren't really my kin but we called them that. One of the Polish-Czech origin, and she is still alive and I see her sometimes, and the other - a Jewish woman. Here I give you her name, which I know her by, but I think it was the name for the occupation, which she kept.

I do not miss anyone in particular. I was born after the war in the small town where there were no Jews, but I miss them, because for many centuries they were next to us and with us; they contributed to our literature, music, theater, science. They fought with us side by side in many wars. I miss them as one may miss the loved ones, gone forever.

They came from Ursus, Warszawa, where my father worked at the tractor factory in the 50's. But originally they came from Przeworsk my mother, and from Łosice my father. Jacob Icchak, son of Asher was called the "Saint Jew". It was He who inspired the beginnings of the center of social and intellectual live for the Jews in Przesucha. In 18th and 19th century an important place for the Hasidism. In the 21st century I stood there inside the walls of a ruin of their beautiful synagogue with a Jewish family, the Chernobilsky.

This is not a longing for someone in particular but the first remembrance of the Jewish community in my city. I remember the cemetery, which had no fences, so it was easy to enter.
